This was the only Hot 100 single for Cold Blood an R&B band out of San Francisco. They were signed by rock impresario Bill Graham. The groups lead singer Lydia Pense was compared at the time to Janis Joplin and it was Joplin who recommended to Graham that he give Cold Blood a listen. Cold Blood recorded six albums from 1969 until the mid 70’s when they disbanded. They would return in the 2000’s and are still an active band with Pense the only original member remaining in the band.
“You Got Me Hummin'” was originally recorded by Sam and Dave on the Stax label and was a #8 R&B hit- #71 in the Hot 100 in 1966. I prefer the Sam and Dave version.
If I hadn’t read your post before listening to this song, I would’ve sworn it was Janis Joplin.
There is a strong resemblance isn’t there!
This isn’t bad but definitely the Sam and Dave version is better.
