A timely #1 hit- for Halloween 1962- “Monster Mash” by Bobby “Boris” Pickett and The Crypt- Kickers. While “Werewolves Of London” is my go-to Halloween song- “Monster Mash” is probably still the most famous Halloween song- its one of those songs you know you will hear every October. Bobby Pickett was a novelty singer-songwriter born in Somerville, Massachusetts. He had 3 Top 40 hits- two of which were this song- in its original run in 1962 and then in 1973 it reentered the charts and went to #10. This other hit was “Monster’s Holiday” also in 1962- it went to #30. Leon Russell played piano on “Monster Mash.” Pickett died in 2007 at the age of 69 of leukemia.
“Monster Mash” is a timeless classic – seriously!
Bobby Pickett has such a unique voice kind of like Vincent Price.
He was perfect for that song- and he was pretty young to have that kind of a voice!
I’m sure he was using every muscle in his face here. So funny!
“Leon Russell played piano on “Monster Mash.” ” Cool piece of trivia.
