Glen Campbell doing another Jimmy Webb song- what a winning combination that was in the late 60’s-early 70’s. Campbell during his long career on the charts had 37 Hot 100 pop singles and 21 Top 40 singles between 1961-2014. He had two #1 hits- “Rhinestone Cowboy” 1975 and “Southern Nights”- 1977.
“Honey Come Back” was more successful on the Country Singles Chart peaking at #2. It was more successful on the UK Singles Chart where it peaked at #4. It was an older Jimmy Webb song having first been recorded early in Webb’s career- 1965 by Dorsey Burnette- but that recording didn’t surface until 2006. Chuck Jackson had the first release of the song. Don Ho released it as a single in 1969. In 1970 a dozen other artists other than Campbell released it. Of course the hit version was Campbell’s- Campbell doing a Jimmy Webb tune.
