Chairmen Of The Board were an R&B vocal group out of Detroit. This was their first hit- they would eventually have 6 Hot 100 singles with 4 making the Top 40 between 1970-73. The songwriting team of Holland-Dozier-Holland had left Motown and had formed their own label through Capitol Records- Invictus Records. They had the great Motown instrumental musicians- The Funk Brothers back their artists up- and that included playing on this hit. The lead singer for Chairmen Of The Board- General Johnson also wrote the song “Patches” which was Clarence Carter’s big hit which won a Grammy Award. “Give Me Just A Little More Time” peaked at #3 on the UK Singles chart as it did on the Billboard chart.
Frank Sinatra was referred to as the Chairmen Of The Board.
So was the great NY Yankee Hall of Fame pitcher Whitey Ford.
I hated this song when I first heard it, but eventually grew to like it OK.
Sounds very Motown… (no objections to that… some good songs came out of Motown…)
