The former singer for The Temptations- David Ruffin’s solo career produced 7 Hot 100 singles and 2 Top 40 hits. His troubled life ended in 1991 at the age of 50 of a drug overdose. Grade: B

655. “Bold Soul Sister”- Ike and Tina Turner. Blue Thumb. Soul. Written by Ike Turner. B-Side:”I Know” Peaked at #59 8 weeks on the chart. Ike and Tina Turner had 20 Hot 100 singles with 6 making the Top 40. Their biggest hit came in 1971 with their great cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary” #4. In 1969 they had 4 Hot 100 singles but none of them made the Top 40. Grade: B-

Born Lugee Sacco in Glenwillard, Pennsylvania- Lou Christie had 12 Hot 100 hit singles with 4 cracking the Top 40- his biggest hit “Lightenin’ Strikes” #1 in 1965. Grade: C

It amazes me at times the great singles that are for whatever reason neglected and then there are ones the shouldn’t have seen the light of day which are popular.
I like this series as it illustrates just that.
