575. “Eleanor Rigby”- Aretha Franklin. Atlantic. Soul. Written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. B:Side:”It Ain’t Fair.” Peaked at #17 8 weeks on the chart. While credited to Lennon- McCartney this was written by Sir Paul- one of the greatest of Beatle tunes. Aretha’s take on it different from the original -not as great as The Beatles or Ray Charles versions but still pretty good- it’s Aretha. Grade: A-

I had never heard the Aretha Franklin version of Eleanor Rigby… She made it into a different song…good but almost unrecognizable.
I agree if you just heard it out of the blue- it would be kind of hard to identify.
I think this is the first time all 3 songs were by females. All wonderful. First time hearing the last one.
I’ll always love Someday. Brand New is a excellent tune. I don’t think I knew Butler, Gamble and Bell wrote it. This is hard…can I admit I that I never liked the great Miss Aretha Franklin’s cover of Eleanor Rigby?
Yes you can admit it– I certainly prefer The Beatles and Ray Charles versions!
