478. “Suspicious Minds”- Elvis Presley. RCA-Victor. Rock.Written by Mark James. B-side:”You’ll Think Of Me” Peaked at #1 and spent 15 weeks in the Hot 100. Elvis’s final #1 and one of his signature songs. 1969 was a comeback year for him- he had 6 Hot 100 singles and all made the Top 40. He also made his final movie that year- another good thing- not the movie but that streak of mindless movies ended. Grade: A+

479.”Tracy”- The Cuff Links. Decca. Bubblegum Pop . Written by Paul Vance. B-side:”Where Do You Go?” Peaked at #9 and spent 12 weeks in the Hot 100. The Cuff Links a group using the overdubbed voice of Ron Dante {The Archies} 3 Hot 100 singles in 1969-70 this was the only Top 40 hit. Grade: B-

480. “Jealous Kind Of Fella”- Garland Green. Uni. Soul. Written by Green, Armstead, Dollison and Browner B-side: “I Can’t Believe You Quit Me”. Peaked at #20 and spent 10 weeks in the Hot 100. This is the only Hot 100 single for R&B singer-pianist Garland Green. Grade: B-
This is not the era of Elvis that I like, but it is one of the songs by him that I love. It’s perfect. I love the drumming, especially at the end.
This started the age of Elvis going downhill, and I never much cared for his songs in at this time.
It’s probably been since Tracy first came out that I’ve heard it, but it seems like just yesterday. It’s a compelling tune for me. I love Elvis singing this one also.
I like some of Elvis’s work in 1969- early 70’s- then he seemed to fade for me.
