455. “Sugar On Sunday”- The Clique. White Whale. Pop. Written by Mike Vale and Tommy James. B-side:”Superman” Peaked at #22 and spent 11 weeks in the Hot 100. A pop band from Beaumont, Texas . The first of 3 Hot 100 hits for The Clique- it is the only one which hit the Top 40- all three were written by Tommy James. Grade: B-

456. “Daddy’s Little Man”- O.C. Smith. Columbia. Soul. Written by Mac Davis. B-side:”If I Leave You Know.” Peaked at #34 and spent 7 weeks on the chart. From the man who gave us “Little Green Apples”#2 in 1968- gag! O.C. Smith had 3 Hot 100 singles in 1969 and this was the most successful chart wise. Grade: C
I think Gene Pitney covered that first one. I like the 2nd one, you can really hear the Tommy James influence.
Daddy’s Little Man is wonderful. I love some of the orchestration, and what a sweet message.
