The Sounds of Autumn: Day 4/90: Thursday September 26, 2019: “Autumn Leaves” Eva Cassidy. What a voice Eva Cassidy had. When she died from cancer at the age of 33 in late 1996 she was an unknown. Two years after her passing her version of “Fields Of Gold” a Sting song was played by Terry Harding and Terry Wogan on BBC Radio 2- and the audience loved it. In 2007 she even had a #1 hit with her version of “What A Wonderful World” in the UK. At the time of her death she had one studio album and one live album released-she now has had a total of six studio albums, three live albums and two compilations. What a shame that her success has come posthumously.
Well you just ripped my heart out! I love Eva.
She was such a great singer wasn’t she. She made those songs her own.
She did. And until one hears her, and people say that, “she made those songs her own,” it’s almost incomprehensible.
Because who could take Somewhere Over the Rainbow from Judy or Songbird from Christine?
Eva. Only Eva.
oh yes she wasn’t singing all unknown songs- but big ones- ones some people might even be too intimidated to even attempt and putting her mark on them. What a tremendous talent.
Mick Fleetwood had her in to sing at his restaurant if I remember correctly.
