Today the final four singles to enter the chart on June 14, 1969- “It’s My Thing {You Can’t Tell Me Who To Sock It To}- Marva Whitney, “Dammit, Isn’t God’s Last Name”- Frankie Laine, ” Gotta Get To Know You”- Bobby Bland, and “Funny Feeling”- The Delfonics.

313. “It’s My Thing {You Can’t Tell Me Who To Sock It To]- Marva Whitney. King. Soul. Written by James Brown, Marva Whitney and The Isley Brothers. B-Side:”Ball of Fire.” This is an answer song to The Isley Brothers “It’s Your Thing.” it was her only entry into the Hot 100- peaking at #82 and spending 4 weeks on the chart. This sure does have that James Brown funk all over it. Grade: B

314. “Dammit, Isn’t God’s Last Name”- Frankie Laine. ABC. Pop. Written by Dick Monda. B-side:”Fresh Out Of Tears.” Frankie Laine back in the day was huge and had success over several generations. The young Beatles were fans. He had 15 Hot 100 hits from 1955-69- but before that had 44 hits. He had 3 #1 hits “That Lucky Old Sun”, “Mule Train”, The Cry Of The Wild”  “Dammit, Isn’t God’s Last Name” was his final chart entry and it peaked at #86 and spent 3 weeks on the chart. Frankie Laine who was born in Chicago- as Frank Lavecchio- died in 2007 at 93. Grade: D

315. “Gotta Get To Know You”- Bobby Bland. Duke. Soul. Written by Andre Williams and Deadric Malone. B-Side: “Baby,I’m On My Way.” Bobby “Blue’ Bland had an interesting chart history- from 1957-74 he placed 37 singles in the Hot 100 but only 4 made the Top 40. His biggest hit was “Ain’t Nothing You Can Do” #20 in 1964. He did better on the R&B charts where he had 63 hits from 1957-85. Bland was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. “Gotta Get To Know You” peaked at #91 and spent 3 weeks on the chart. Grade: Grade: B

316. “Funny Feeling”- The Delfonics. Philly Groove. Soul. Written by Thom Bell and William Hart. B-Side:” My New Love.” The Delfonics had 3 Hot 100 singles in 1969 only one made the Top 40. Their biggest hit was their first hit a year earlier in 1968 with “La -La Means I Love You’ #4. “Funny Feeling” peaked at #94 and spent 2 weeks in the Hot 100. Grade: C
