Every Entry Into The Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart- 1969- Part 97. The three singles today are the top 3 debuting singles from the week of June 14, 1969- “The Ballad Of John And Yoko”- The Beatles, “Mother Popcorn {You Got To Have A Mother For Me] Part 1.” and “Quentin’s Theme”- The Charles Randolph Grean Sounde.

304. “The Ballad Of John and Yoko”- The Beatles. Apple. Rock. Written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney. B-side:” Old Brown Shoe.” A John Lennon written tune about his adventures with Yoko- I have always thought this should have been a John Lennon single- not a Beatles single. The only Beatles to play on it were John and Paul. It peaked at #8 and spent 9 weeks on the chart. The Beatles in 1969 had 5 Hot 100 singles- all made the Top 40- with 2 #1’s in “Get Back” and “Come Together.’ Grade: A.

306. “Quentin’s Theme”- The Charles Randolph Grean Sounde. Ranwood. Pop. Written by Robert Cobert. B-side:”#1 At The Blue Whale.” The theme song from the television show “Dark Shadows”- it was the only Hot 100 entry for The Charles Randolph Grean Sounde- the instrumental peaked at #13 and spent 11 weeks on the chart. Grade: B
“Christ, you know it ain’t easy…” Great song.
Mother Popcorn? Don’t remember that…
A lot of those funky James Brown songs- sound the same.
“Jump back! Wanna kiss myself! HEYYYYY!” LOL!
So only John and Paul played on the song, but then they had both George and Ringo in the video. I wonder what G & R thought about that? Quentin’s Theme should be familiar as I was a big fan of Dark Shadows, but it isn’t. My memory must have tossed it…
At that point in time it seemed like an ordinary thing not to have all 4 in a song. One of them would be away doing something and for example Paul would play drums etc… I think towards the end no one was caring as much if they were there or not.
Ah, that helps me understand, thank you.
