The Sounds of Summer: Day 71 of 95: “Sealed With A Kiss”-Bobby Vinton. I would have never thought of this one- but it was suggested the other day by my friend Majadeli- you can read her fine blog at https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/131408541
Bobby Vinton is a local boy- he grew up about 45 minutes away that qualifies as far as I am concerned as a local boy. {Charlie Manson was also a local boy 15 minutes away- that is a little too local } Anyway. Brian Hyland had a #3 hit in 1962 with “Sealed With A Kiss”- Gary Lewis & The Playboys took it to #19 in 1968, I chose Vinton’s version because it is the one that I am most familiar with and of course because he is of course a local. Vinton’s version went to #18 and kick started a comeback in his career. The song is about two lovers parting for the summer- and the ‘kiss’ will bind them until they reunite in September.
Thanks for the nod, Hans. Great song, and according to the song, they are about to be reunited π
It was always interesting- at least in my experiences- when school ended every year it was like you were never going to see these people again- summer seemed so long– but of course September always rolled back around.
