- ARETHA FRANKLIN: ARETHA’S GOLD: 1969: SOUL: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: VINYL: When Aretha left Columbia for Atlantic in the late 60’s her career took off. This greatest hits album of 14 songs just takes into account the first few years at Atlantic. This was Aretha at her peak. Every cut is a classic. The first Aretha album I ever bought. I wasn’t that familiar with her work at the time. I wasn’t disappointed.

- THE BEATLES: PAST MASTERS II: 1988: ROCK POP: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: VINYL: Finishing up my run through The Beatles catalog for another month. The Past Masters volumes are- the singles A and B-sides that hadn’t been released on the regular studio albums and a few odds and ends.
You re-listen to the entire Beat
Catalog every month?
Yes so far this year every month I have listened to The Beatles catalog.
Obviously I’m a bad blog reader. There’s been a couple of times I thought, “I thought he already reviewed that,” but I never noticed the entire catalog every month!
In my defense you do write a lot about music. 🙂
It surprises me when I do listen to the entire catalog-1- How I am left wanting more but also 2- how quickly I can go through it all. If you count the Past Masters collections- a total of 15 albums.
You must have a great job in that you have time to do this!
I am semi-retired. Work about 22 hours a week on average. A lot of time and I don’t sleep much.
You seem so young. Goes to show you never can tell. (Had to get an Emmy Lou reference in!)
This guy I knew when I lived in Athens is writing about his re-listening to his over 600 vinyl albums as he deals with dying from Lewy Body Dementia.

Well thanks- I am 58. Somedays I wonder how that happened. wasn’t I just 20? … Sad to hear that- I will check out the blog link you sent.
Yes I do write a lot about music! I don’t think I have repeated any other entire catalogs this year but The Beatles.
I like Past Masters and also Rarities…if just for the inclusion of The Inner Light.
I can’t imagine why some of those songs – how it took so long to get an album out that included them.
I know…in the seventies I managed to grab a Lady Madonna single at a Flea Market looking for baseball cards…all I had was that scratchy copy to hear this one.
If we were around when it was all happening we would have been buying up all the singles as they were released. “The Inner Light” would be on my list of underappreciated Beatles songs.
Yes it is an underappreciated song. Like Paul said about it…the melody is beautiful.
I was SO happy to get a good version of it…without the hisses and scratches.
Added the Aretha to my list. So a total of 15 albums by the Beatles? I need to see which ones I still need…
Please Please Me/ With The Beatles/ A Hard Day’s Night/ Beatles For Sale/ Help!/ Rubber Soul/ Revolver/ Sgt. Pepper/ Magical Mystery Tour/ The Beatles- White Album/ Yellow Submarine/ Abbey Road/ Let It Be/ Past Masters I &II.
THANK YOU
