Every Entry Into The Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart- 1969- Part 90. The three singles featured today come from the week of May 31, 1969- “I Turned You On”- The Isley Brothers, “Moody Woman”-Jerry Butler and “The Popcorn”- James Brown. All three singles made the Top 40 that summer.

281. ” I Turned You On”- The Isley Brothers. T-Neck. Soul Funk . Written by O’Kelly, Rudolph and Ronald Isley. B-Side: ” I Know You Who You Been Socking It To.” The follow up single to what would be the Isley’s biggest chart hit- the #2 It’s Your Thing”- “I Turned You On” went to #23 and spent 10 week on the chart. Grade: A

282. “Moody Woman”- Jerry Butler. Mercury. Soul. Written by Jerry Butler, Kenneth Gamble, Leon Huff, Theresa Bell and Thom Bell. B-Side:”Go Away-Find Yourself.” “Moody Woman” was the follow up from Jerry Butler’s biggest hit single from earlier in 1969- “Only The Strong Survive.” which went to #4. “Moody Woman” peaked at #24 and spent 10 weeks on the chart. Grade: B

283. “The Popcorn”- James Brown. King. Soul Funk. Written by James Brown. B-side:”The Chicken.” James Brown was busy on the charts in 1969- he put 9 singles into the Hot 100 with 8 of them making the Top 40- the only one which didn’t- just missed at #41. “The Popcorn” an instrumental peaked at #30 and spent 9 weeks on the chart. This is the first of five 1969 hits JB had which had “Popcorn” in the title. Grade: B
