Every Entry Into The Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart- 1969- Part 84. The three singles today were the highest debuting singles on May 24, 1969- “Good Morning Starshine”- Oliver, “Color Him Father”- The Winstons and “Baby, I Love You’ Andy Kim.

 

262. ” Good Morning Starshine”- Oliver. Jubilee. Pop. Written by MacDermont, Ragni and Rado. B-Side: ” Cant You See.” Born William Oliver Swofford in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina- Oliver had 4 Top 40 hits in his career with 3 making the Top 40. 1969 was his year- “Good Morning Starshine”- from the off- Broadway musical Hair- peaked at #3 and spent 13 weeks in the Hot 100- it was followed up with one that went to #2- “Jean.” Grade: A

263. “Color Him Father”- The Winstons. Metromedia. Soul. Written by Richard Spencer. B-Side “Amen, Brother.” The Winstons an R&B septet from Washington, D.C. had 2 Hot 100 singles- with only “Color Him Father” making the Top 40- it peaked at #7 and spent 13 weeks in the Hot 100. Grade: A

264. “Baby, I Love You”- Andy Kim. Steed. Pop. Written by Phil Spector, Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry. B-side “Gee Girl.” Originally a #24 hit for The Ronettes in 1964- Andy Kim’s version did even better on the charts- #9 and 16 weeks in the Hot 100. Born Andrew Joachim in Montreal- Andy Kim from 1968-74 would have 12 Hot 100 hits with 7 making the Top 40. His biggest hit was a #1 in 1974- “Rock Me Gently.” He was also one of the co-writers of the song “Sugar Sugar.”  Grade: B-.
