The Sounds of Summer- Day 52 of 95 “Some Beach”- Blake Shelton. I know, I know this is the kind of song I am always popping off about- when I mention how country music is circling the drain this century. But I like this song- maybe it was because when I first heard it. Has anyone been to Wall Drug, South Dakota? As soon as you enter 90 West in South Dakota you begin seeing these Wall Drugs signs- and by the time you get there of course you have to stop. Wall Drug is a tourist trap. I’ve been there a half dozen times- every time I go that way I stop. In October 2017 were stopped at Wall Drug and were eating in a restaurant. Being October- in South Dakota you aren’t far from winter. The summer crowd going west to The Badlands and Mount Rushmore was non-existent. We were the only ones eating in the restaurant- and as I was chomping down on a Buffalo Burger- this song came on the jukebox. I had no idea who did it but for some reason it stuck with me. I later found out the song was over a dozen years old. It was a #1 country hit for Blake Shelton in 2004. I have to admit to liking this one. While it certainly wouldn’t be the beach- there are those moments you experience like the ones in the song when you daydream about being somewhere else.
I never listen to his music, that I know of, but he is so hilarious on the Tonight Show.
Never heard his music before – country music isn’t very mainstream in the UK – but loved this song.
I didn’t even know who did the song when I first heard it- I don’t listen to much as far as modern country… you are lucky in the UK!
I suppose it can get quite samey, but, on the couple of times we holidayed in the US we ended up listening to a lot of country music in the car, so there’s always a bit of nostalgia about family holidays and sunshine…
Poor Blake. We’ve all been there, which is what makes this song so good. And all thought about that chair under the umbrella waiting…
