THE SOUNDS OF SUMMER- DAY 47 OUT OF 95: “GROOVIN’- THE YOUNG RASCALS

The Sounds of Summer- Day 47 out of 95- “Groovin’- The Young Rascals. Like it or not the summer of ’19 is at the halfway point. Wanted a great song to mark the midway point- and “Groovin’ was not only a #1 hit in the summer of 1967- for four weeks- but also a great summer song.  The Young Rascals/ Rascals had 3 #1 hits- “Good Lovin’ in 1966, “Groovin’ in 1967 and “People Got To Be Free” in 1968. “Groovin’ was written by group members Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati and sung by Cavaliere. It is also sort of famous for one of those great misheard lyrics- some believe he is singing “Life would be ecstasy, you and me and Leslie”, when in fact he is singing “Life would be ecstasy you and me endlessly.”

  2. Great song, but actually Day 48, tomorrow, is the real halfway point. 47 days past, 47 days to come. Just thought I’d clarify. How about some Janis (Summertime) for tomorrow. If memory serves, you may have already done her version, but if so it is worthy of a repeat performance, let the Queen of Blues Rock mark the middle of summer.
