The Sounds of Summer- Day 45 of 95- “Those Lazy- Hazy- Crazy Days of Summer” by Nat King Cole. The song was composed by Hans Carste and first recorded in 1962 by Willy Hagara. It became an easy listening classic in 1963 when it went to #6 on the charts being sung by Nat King Cole. It would be the final Top 10 hit by Cole who would die at the young age of 45 in 1965 of lung cancer. I thought the song was a 1950’s song- it certainly doesn’t seem like something released right before the British Invasion. A good summer tune though.
The chorus of the song is now playing in my mental “jukebox”.
That chorus certainly is one that stays with you a while.
I remember this well. Perfect summer song.
One of the things I loved about working at WHND Honey Radio in Detroit was that every summer, the music director would spike summer songs into the rotation. We played this SO many times! Such a great song by one of the great voices!!
That is great–a program director making the call not some empty clear channel suit.
LOL – Or Cumulus suit for that matter!
