The Sounds of Summer- Day 44 of 95- “Rockaway Beach”- The Ramones. This song is on The Ramones outstanding “Rocket To Russia” album -their third album. “Rockaway Beach” written by Dee Dee Ramone is written in the Beach Boy beach songs of the early to mid 60’s style. The Ramones never had a hit single on the charts- the closest they ever came to the Top 40 was “Rockaway Beach” #66. Growing up Rockaway Beach-on the Atlantic Ocean- Queens, New York was a place for Dee Dee Ramone- born Doug Colvin hang out. Dee Dee was the only beach-goer in The Ramones- like Dennis Wilson was the only surfer in The Beach Boys. This is one of their great songs from the 70’s- you can’t go wrong with any of the first four Ramones albums–after that it is hit and miss but the first four- Ramones, Leave Home, Rock To Russia and Road To Ruin- fantastic and must have’s.
Pretty cool surf punk rock. The Ramones meets The Beach Boys, or something like that.
Yes! Brilliant tune! Love, Love The Ramones.
Thanks for the great memories
