The Sounds Of Summer- Day 35 of 95- “Suddenly Last Summer”- The Motels. The Motels were a pop-rock band out of Berkeley, California  fronted by Martha Davis. From 1982-87 they had four Top 40 hits- the most notable being their first hit – 1982’s “Only The Lonely” #9 and 1983’s- Suddenly Last Summer.” Martha Davis denies that the song “Suddenly Last Summer” has anything at all to do with the Tennessee Williams play of the same name. That Williams died the same month that The Motels went into the studio to record the album which features this song is purely a coincidence. Davis has said the song is about the loss of virginity and innocence. “‘Suddenly Last Summer’ percolated for years. The song, written after her parents had died — her mom by suicide and her dad from illness — is a reflection on those moments in life when things are changing, like when it’s a beautiful sunny day and a cold wind blows and you know the end of summer is coming.” The Motels are still around- they released an album last year.

My friend Msjadeli posted on “Suddenly Last Summer” a couple days ago- below is her fine post.
