THE SOUNDS OF SUMMER- DAY 33 OF 95: “LOVELY DAY”- BILL WITHERS

Lovely Day - Bill Withers.jpeg

The Sounds of Summer- Day 33/ 95. “Lovely Day”- Bill Withers.  After a very hot and humid few days- yesterday rain come though and today it is going to be my perfect summer day- a high of 75 with low humidity and sunny. A good day for Bill Wither’s “Lovely Day.” “Lovely Day” was written by Bill Withers and Skip Scarborough. It was released as a single in December 1977 and had more success in the UK where it reached #7 than in the US where it peaked at #30. The song is probably most memorable for a moment late in the song where Withers sustains a note for 18 seconds. Over the years the song has been covered by many other artists and also used in advertisements and movies.

    • That song was also used in the movie– I am drawing a blank here- it was the movie where the guy who was hiking and fell in between rocks and had to cut off his own arm to escape? True story.

    • I remember that movie, has James Franco as the guy, but dont remember the name of it either. Amazing courage and desperation to stay alive! Have you seen the movie Arctic yet? I think it is pretty new, where a guy’s plane crashes in the Arctic? It’s intense. Not sure if based on a true story though.
