Hans Remembers- Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game- Wednesday July 23, 1969 at R.F.K. Stadium in Washington, D.C.
Rained out on Tuesday night- MLB’s All- Star Game was held on Wednesday afternoon. It is the last time that an All-Star Game has been played out of prime time. President Richard Milhous Nixon was scheduled to attend and throw out the first pitch on Tuesday night but with the rain out- Milhous had to head out to the Pacific Ocean to greet the Apollo 11 astronauts landing in the ocean on Thursday. In Nixon’s place Vice President Spiro Agnew replaced him at the All-Star Game. The National League continued their domination of the American League winning 9-3 with the SF Giants Willie McCovey winning the MVP Award. After winning in 1962- the American League would only win one All-Star Game-in 1971 from 1963-82. In today’s MLB- the American League is now the dominate league winning the last seven games including a couple weeks ago.
