182. “Happy Heart”- Andy Williams. Columbia. Pop. Written by James Last and Jackie Rae. B-side “Our Last Goodbye.” Andy Williams from 1956-76 had 47 Hot 100 hit singles with 29 making the Top 40. He had 2 #1’s “Butterfly” 1957 and “White Christmas” 1963. Oddly his signature song “Moon River” was never released as a single. “Happy Heart” went to #11 and spent 11 weeks in the Hot 100.Grade: B

183. “Stand!”- Sly and The Family Stone. Epic. Funk Soul. Written by Sylvester Stone. B-Side “I Want To Take You Higher.” Sly and The Family Stone had an earlier single on the charts in 1969- “Sing A Simple Song” so I won’t go over their career again. “Stand!” peaked at #22 and spent 8 weeks on the chart. Grade: A+

184. “Cissy Strut”- The Meters. Josie. Funk. Written by The Meters. B-side: Here Comes The Meter Man. An instrumental by this New Orleans group- the song was entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2011. It peaked at #23 and spent 11 weeks in the charts in the spring of 1969. The Meters would have 7 Hot 100 hits with 2 making the Top 40. Grade: A

I remember when Andy Wms was big and remember the song. He and his wife had that Christmas special every year. Stand oh yes, a wonderful anthem. The Meters good and funky reminds me of The Crusaders. Nice mellow elevator music.
Art Neville of The Meters and Neville Brothers- died yesterday at 81.
