- At 1:27 PM EST Apollo 11 completed its six minute ‘lunar orbit insertion’ maneuver and began orbiting the Moon. Scheduled for the next day- landing on the Moon!
- Row Row Row Your Boat- John Fairfax did a lot of rowing and became the first person to make a solo trip across an ocean in a rowboat. He had left Las Palmas in the Canary Islands -180 days earlier- and today he arrived in Hollywood Beach, Florida.

- The Spencer Davis Group called it quits. The group had been on a steady downhill slide in popularity since the departures of Steve and Muff Winwood in 1967. They had 2 Top 10 hits in the US- “Gimme Some Lovin’ #7 in 1966 and “I’m A Man” #10 in 1967 with the Winwood’s in the band.
