LOVED Joni Mitchell esp “The Circle Game”. Then there was Judy Collins, Carole King and Melanie. Linda Ronstadt too. Oh, what an era of female vocalists !
Great singer- songwriters for sure!
Hans, I’m looking at the L listings right now. I see The Band self-titled has a remastered one from 2000. Do you know if there are any differences I need to know? Which one would be better? I’m guessing original but not sure.
The 2000 remastering has a number of extra bonus tracks- I’d go with that one. They came out with remastering’s of all the albums with bonus stuff on each.
Ah ok, thank you!
I think there may have even been another remastering since- or maybe I am confusing them and CCR.
I nearly always prefer the original master Jade. Most of those remasters especially in the late 90s and 00s were brighter and less dynamic with no real upside. You might get a few bonus tracks but I’m more interested in what the band worked on released way back when. Best listen for yourself and decide if you can, you’ll probably prefer one or the other
Thanks, Jeremy. I will keep it in mind. I know I prefer albums over CDs.
I prefer the original vinyl–but libraries don’t have vinyl and if you don’t have the vinyl it becomes costly to start buying something like The Band now…
Nice to see an album (by the Black Keys) recorded after 2000 on your list.
One day i might just listen to recent albums!
I’m curious – do you ever listen to any of the #1 songs on my Weekly Top 30 lists, or any of the music I review?
I usually pick out a song or two from your lists to listen to. Give me a couple albums you’d think I like- it never really occurs to me to listen much to new artists anymore.
Well, you’re missing out on a lot of great music. Some recent good albums are “The Darker the Weather//The Better the Man” by MISSIO, “What Went Down” by British band Foals from 2015, and a recent one I reviewed “Dance For the Hunted” by British rock band Saboteurs. Their lead singer has a voice that’s similar to Bono of U2.
I will look those up and listen- thanks for the suggestions!
See Self portrait on the list today….3 stars is quite generous of you!
Busy music day!
