- Barbra Streisand would be on hand to open the newest and biggest casino and resort in Las Vegas- The International Hotel. The hotel had 1510 rooms and 30 stories. It would change names over the years and 1981-90 it was the largest hotel in the world. Today it is known as Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino. It now has 2956 rooms.

- Today was a day of changes to The Jimi Hendrix Experience. Bassist Noel Redding and Drummer Mitch Mitchell both quit the band at the conclusion of the Denver Pop Festival.

- Born on this date American Latin music singer Jenni Rivera in Long Beach, California. Rivera would be killed in a plane crash in Mexico in 2012
Jenni Rivera’s name does not ring a bell. Why did the band members walk out on Jimi? 2900 rooms in a hotel??? Truly mind-boggling. I don’t remember seeing that one when I went to Vegas for the first time a few years ago. I stayed at Mandalay Bay but have no idea how many rooms it has.
Mitchell ended up staying but Jimi and Redding weren’t getting along and Jimi added members to the band without consulting Redding so that was enough- he split…. I had never heard of Rivera until her death.
The Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino, if full to capacity, and counting stall and non-staying patrons, would be far bigger than the town I currently live in. I’d probably die from claustrophobia.
Same thing here- as far as size of town. You can count me out as far as Vegas goes.
I passed through it back in the early 70s, on my way hitchhiking to San Diego. I put a quarter in a slot machine, just to say I did it, lost, and left. That was my life in Vegas, lol.
You were a smart one- some can’t stop playing.
I was in Vegas in Nov. 2000. I don’t remember that hotel. It must be in the old strip area.
I have never heard of Jenni.
