Hans Remembers- News Headlines from Tuesday July 1, 1969.

- At Caernarvon Castle in Whales Queen Elizabeth II places the coronet on the head of her son Charles -in the formal investiture of United Kingdom’s Prince Charles as the Prince of Wales. The event was televised live to not only British viewers but to half a billion views in the United States and the British Commonwealth. Who would have thought that 50 years later- Charles Philip Arthur George would still be Prince and not King. Queen Elizabeth is 93, remember The Queen Mom lived to 101. He may still be in for a wait.

- In Memphis, Tennessee an end of an era as Sam Phillips sells Sun Records Studio.

- John Lennon and Yoko Ono were involved in a car crash in Scotland. John, Yoko and Yoko’s daughter Kyoko were rushed to the hospital with minor injuries. In London sessions begin without John on what would be The Beatles Abbey Road album. Paul was the only Beatles present- working on the song “You Never Give Me Your Money.”
Trivia that probably everyone knows: The gold ball on Charles’ crown is a spray-painted ping pong ball. 🙂
Sam may have sold Sun Records, but it’s been beautifully preserved. It is one of my all time favorite tourist stops.
I’ve been there a number of times – the last time a year and a half ago- anytime I am near Memphis I just have to stop. Sam was a character!
Likewise! I’ve been to Sun both times I’ve been to Memphis, and I’ll keep stopping there every time I can.
I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info. A ping pong ball…😄
Hans, have you heard from Max today? I’m worried about him.
I was going to ask you about him yesterday evening- No I haven’t not since Saturday? If you hear anything let me know. He did made a couple blog posts Sunday morning but other than that?? Yes concerned here too.
He is OK. Had a reaction to a procedure.
Thanks Vic
Never knew about that car accident. Makes you think how random events change history – had that been a fatal crash for example…
Liz just won’t get out of the way.
Spray-painted ping pong ball. I can’t get over that. Isn’t that considered, like, exceedingly tacky for a crown, lol………….??
That’s funny.. I can remember watching that when it happened. Chuck was odd even then.
