The Beatles Cover of the Day is ‘The Fool On The Hill’ by Sergio Mendes and Brasil ’66. “The Fool On The Hill” was on The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour album released at the end of 1967- a Lennon-McCartney song- it was written by Paul McCartney. I selected this today because of one of the dreams I had last night -in the dream I heard an old man singing “The Fool On The Hill” and it was terrific. Of course the Sergio Mendes version isn’t by an old man- but I like it. The other dream I had last night is that I was at a basketball game and J.J. Walker- of “Good Times” fame was sitting beside me and we were talking about the state of the NBA.
Those girls in Brazil 66 could sing!
That made me think of how we all have our turn to play the fool on the hill…. sorry to be so philosophical.
You have some interesting dreams, Hans. Is JJ still alive? First question about the dreams: what was your feeling on each as you were having them?
With The Beatles dream- my thought was this is the best Beatles cover I have ever heard- is it Johnny Cash? When I determined that it wasn’t- my next thought was I am dreaming this it can’t be real…. with the JJ Walker- yes he is still living– I was having a blast talking to him- he was funny and we seemed to have been friends. He looked like the same Good Times J JJ but older.
The first one sounds like a lucid dream, which is where you know you’re dreaming. You can analyze the dream by writing down all of the nouns of the dream (including Johnny Cash) and then think of every association you can for each noun. Then you can plug different associations into the blanks of the dream where those nouns were. Do the same with the other dream. Dreams are messages, but they come to us like jumbled up pieces of a jigsaw puzzle.
I always liked this song – I mean the Beatles original version – We use to sing this in music class when I was in the 4th grade!
Has to be a great memory!
Your dreams sound as interesting as mine. I also had a sports related celebrity dream. Years ago, I dreamt that I was playing ping-pong with actor Richard Gere on my front porch. Recently, I had a very vivid dream about Paul McCartney which gave me a great idea for the next several posts for my Guitar Train blog. By the way, coincidentally, today (June 25) is Jimmie Walker’s (J.J.) 72nd birthday.
Wow J.J is 72?.. That was nice of Paul giving you great ideas!… and who won the ping -pong match?
I don’t remember actually finishing the match. I probably woke up before it concluded.
You all have me beat. I rarely even remember my dreams, and when I do, they’re usually anxiety dreams of some kind, lol !!
