Sunday June 22, 1969
- The famous episode where the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland caught fire after an oil slick floating on the river ignites. For decades factories along the river had been dumping their waste into the river and on this date it caught fire. Before it was extinguished the fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damages to railroad trestles and railroad tracks.
Monday June 23, 1969
- Warren Burger was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court by retiring Chief Justice Earl Warren.
Tuesday June 24, 1969
- In Denmark voters rejected a proposal to lower the voting age from 21 to 18- many believed the vote was influenced by thousands of students demonstrating in May against the showing of the movie The Green Berets- the demonstrating led to a clash with police in Copenhagen.
