The Beatles Cover of the Day- “You Can’t Do That”- Harry Nilsson. Harry Nilsson was a fanatical fan of The Beatles- and the Beatles were wild about Harry. At a press conference in 1968 when asked who their favorite band was John Lennon said Nilsson. Harry would of course later meet The Beatles and become close friends with John and Ringo. On Harry’s second album Pandemonium Shadow Show” released in 1967 he covered two Beatles songs- You Can’t Do That and She’s Leaving Home. I have always liked his take on You Can’t Do That- not one of The Beatles more well known songs- Harry had a great voice and he has a lot of fun with “You Can’t Do That”- he quotes 17 other Beatles songs in his version. Superb.
Awesome Hans…you are posting some I’ve never heard.
:::applause::: what a pleasant mishmash. I bet The Beatles loved it.
Great cover. Great Lennon quote.
So weird to me. All I think of when I remember Nilsson is Without You, and this is so different from that.
But nice! I meant to say. 🙂
