The Beatles Cover of the Day is- “Fool On The Hill” and “Eleanor Rigby” by Bobbie Gentry. I included them both because Bobbie Gentry released them both on the same single with “Fool On The Hill” as the A-side of the single. A Paul McCartney song from The Magical Mystery Tour- I have always thought it was one of Paul’s more underrated songs.” Eleanor Rigby” was primarily written by Paul but as with “Fool On The Hill” is credited as a Lennon-McCartney song. I have been on a Bobbie Gentry kick this month. Her versions of the songs doesn’t stray so far from the originals that you don’t recognize them. I love her voice. Nor making a claim that Bobbie Gentry outdoes The Beatles but I do enjoy her versions of both songs- especially “Fool On The Hill.”
She had a great voice, too.
She could make anything sound good.
I like her voice in Fool on the Hill, but the instruments seem off to me. Eleanor Rigby (I think you noticed I used Eleanor in my story on Rocky Raccoon?) sounds fine.
I find the music on both selections somewhat confusing. Also Bobbie Gentry’s voice seems quite expressionless at times. E.R. goes too fast for its sadness. I prefer the rhythm to suit the mood, sad songs should be slow.
