1969 Song of the Day is-“Baby It’s You-” by Smith. Smith was a band based out of California. The song they had a top 5 hit with in 1969- Baby It’s You- was written by Burt Bacharach, Luther Dixon and Mack David. It was already a well known song by the time Smith recored it-The Shirelles and The Beatles had previously recorded it. Smith’s version would become the highest charting version of the song. The singer for Smith was Gayle McCormick. The band disbanded in 1971 after two albums.

When Gayle McCormick passed away in 2016, I saw early photos of her and thought: “Wow. She looks like Sharon Tate.”
