Songs I like by Artists I Don’t- If I Could Turn Back Time- Cher. I have never cared for Cher- even back in the Sonny and Cher days- while I liked Sonny- for some reason Cher just rubbed me the wrong way. She is the poster girl for plastic surgery- is there anything left that is original? I have had a hard time liking any of her music- but for some reason I did find myself liking If I Could Turn Back Time even though I don’t think it is that great of a record. The song was written by songwriter Diane Warren. Cher originally disliked the song but only after Warren forced her to record it did she change her opinion of the song. Released in 1989 it would become Cher’s first Top 5 charting single since Dark Lady back in 1974. The video for the song was filmed on the USS Missouri- the battleship where the Japanese surrendered ending World War II- which didn’t make some World War II vets happy.  Cher is now on her farewell tour- which I hope she really means to honor. Over the years she has had as a solo artist 4 #1’s, 12 Top 10 singles, and 22 Top 40 hits. I did like her in the movie “Moonstruck.”

  1. I remember this video…Cher’s impersonation of a hooker. I liked most of her 70’s music when she still had crooked teeth and a soul. The only ‘new’ song I liked was “I Found Someone”.

  4. I don’t care for this song at all. I do like “Gypsies, Tramps, & Thieves. Generally speaking I hate pop singers. She has been a staple for drag queens for years!
