
Hans Remembers- This day 50 years ago- Sunday March 30, 1969- President Dwight D. Eisenhower had died two days earlier. Yesterday March 29, 1969 his body was moved to the Washington National Cathedral’s Bethlehem Chapel where for 28 hours it would lay in repose. Today- March 30th his body was brought to the US Capitol to lay in state at the Capitol’s Rotunda. Tomorrow- Monday March 31st will be the funeral at the National Cathedral and then his body will be carried by train back to Abilene, Kansas where he grew up.
The first person to have the honor of lying in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda- Henry Clay back in 1952.
