The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is Monkey Man. Monkey Man written by Mick Jagger- Keith Richards is the penultimate song on Let It Bleed. The song was written as a tribute to Italian pop artist Mario Schifano who they met on the set of the movie “Human, Not Human.” Monkey Man was recorded in the period between the firing of Brian Jones and the hiring of Mick Taylor. Session man Nicky Hopkins is on the piano again. Monkey Man is one of the harder rocking songs on Let It Bleed. In the great film Goodfellas the song is used in a scene where the gangsters are trafficking cocaine.

  2. This song is in my top few of the Stones. It’s one from the great 5 album period that is not as worn out…

    • I didn’t add it to what i wrote on the song- but when I hear Monkey Man- I think of a summer job I had during college at a state park. This older fella who worked there- a big Stones fan- I think he was high this day- and we got him going- he was putting on a Stones concert- the one I remember him doing most was Monkey Man- he did a good Jagger.
