1969 Song of the Day is “Love Theme From Romeo And Juliet”-also known as “A Time For Us’- by Henry Mancini. I generally want to feature songs that I like from 1969 but I also don’t want to ignore big hits-that I may not care for. This single went to #1 on the pop charts for two weeks in the summer of 1969. It was from the film Romeo and Juliet. The song was arranged by Henry Mancini and was written by Nino Rota. It reached #1 after knocking The Beatles “Get Back” which had been #1 for 5 weeks off the top. Kind of an impressive feat- going to #1 with this very soft song in the heart of the rock era. During his career Henry Mancini was nominated for seventy-two Grammy’s and won twenty. Love Theme From Romeo and Juliet was his biggest hit and only #1.
Nominated for 72 grammies??? Unreal!
That is even more than Meryl Streep has been nominated in the Oscars!
Or Glenn Close.
I can’t even remember what the awards were but Susan Lucci had like 20 nominations before she ever won!
That was a Daytime Emmy.
