It was fifty years ago today- Tuesday February 25, 1969- Beatle George Harrison celebrated his 26th birthday- he was finally out of the hospital after his tonsillectomy earlier in February. On his birthday he was at the Abbey Road Studios- and began work on recording what is probably the most acclaimed song he would ever write- “Something.” Frank Sinatra would call “Something” the greatest love song ever written. Hard to argue against Frank.  Something was inspired by this then wife Pattie Boyd- who may have inspired more songs than anyone in rock history- at least rock classics- she would later inspire Eric Clapton to write “Layla.”

    • I didn’t either until recently- and from what i gather George was hospitalized for a week. I have never had that done but how long today would you be in the hospital for that?

    • Not that long for sure. I was 12 in 79 and I stayed 2 days total for it. For adults it’s more dangerous for some reason .

  1. when I was 7 I broke my leg- that was in 1968 and I was in the hospital a week. it was a bad break but a week for a broken leg? times were different in a lot of ways i guess.

  2. I really like the video you chose for this. Never thought I’d see all 4 of them with their significant others in one video. You gotta admit, George wrote good love songs.

    • Yes he did- that was an epic song- my favorite George song is Here Comes The Sun but I can’t argue that this might be his best.
