The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is–2000 Light Years From Home. Written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards it is the penultimate song on Their Satanic Majesties Request. Along with She’s A Rainbow- I’d rank this as the best song on the album. Mick wrote this song in his cell at Brixton Prison during the nights of June 29-30, 1967- having been sentenced to three months in jail for possession of Benzedrine. He would be released on bail the following day. 2000 Light Years From Home was the b-side to She’s A Rainbow. Musically Brian Jones was at it again this time on the mellotron and super sessionman Nicky Hopkins plays the intro and outro on the piano.
Pretty good. I love these moving diorama’s they did with the songs. They are works of art.
I finally heard them sing this live in 2013. I was a happy Stones fan.
They need to do more of these kind of songs in concert and less of the standards they have done concert tour after concert tour. They have a great catalog of songs- use them fellas!
Is it just me, or is this track far, far better than everything else on the album?!
I like this and She’s A Rainbow- more songs in that line would have made it a much better album.
Yes she’s a rainbow is great too. Hard to fathom why those two are so much better than the rest
One thing I read- Brian Jones commented that a month before they went in to record- they had nothing- and I think they were busy with other activities at that time also–indulging in maybe a little too much drugs…
That makes absolute sense… Most of it sounds like the result of no planning and drugs haha
