- Actor Boris Karloff best known for playing Frankenstein’s monster in the 1930’s Frankenstein films died at the age of 81 in Midhurst, Sussex, England. Karloff was born William Henry Platt in Camberwell, Surray, England in 1887 played Frankenstein in Frankenstein in 1931, Bride Of Frankenstein in 1935 and Son Of Frankenstein in 1939. To more modern audiences he was known for being the voice of The Grinch in the Dr. Seuss Christmas special- How The Grinch Stole Christmas.


- In baseball news- the Baseball Hall of Fame’s Veteran’s Committee announced two new members for the 1969 Hall of Fame class. Earlier in January the baseball writers had elected Stan Musial and Roy Campanella- today the Veteran’s Committee elected pitchers Stan Coveleski and Waite Hoyt. Coveleski who pitched mainly for the Cleveland Indians during his career [1912-28} had won 215 and lost 142 during his career, he had led the American League in ERA in 1923 and 1925. Hoyt who played for a number of teams is most remembered as a New York Yankee from 1921-30- his career totals- 237 wins and 182 losses. He led the American League in victories in 1927- the year The Babe hit 60 home runs.

- In Beatles news- Yoko Ono and her husband Tony Cox were officially divorced. Yoko was granted custody of their daughter Kyoko. Yoko and John Lennon would be married on March 30.
