1969 Song of the Day is- “Something In The Air” by Thunderclap Newman. Thunderclap Newman was a group put together by The Who’s Pete Townshend and their manager Kit Lambert. Their idea was to showcase the talents of Speedy Keen, Jimmy McCulloch [later to join Paul McCartney’s Wings} and Andy “Thunderclap” Newman. They recorded one album- Hollywood Dream. Townshend would play bass on this single “Something In The Air” which went all the way to #1 in the UK and #37 in the US. The single came out in 1969- the album a year later. Something In The Air was written by Speedy Keen who had been Pete Townshend’s chauffeur and had earlier written for The Who’s -The Who Sell Out album- the song “Armenia City In The Sky.” Something In The Air is a great sounding song- which over the years has been much in demand for films, television shows and advertisements. The song has been covered by many artists- including Tom Petty, Eurythmics and Donald Fagen.  One of those songs I never get tired of hearing.
