THE ROLLING STONES SONG OF THE DAY –CONNECTION

The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is- Connection. Connection is on Between The Buttons and is credited to Mick Jagger and Keith Richards- although it is a Keith Richards song. The first time I heard “Connection” wasn’t by The Rolling Stones but an excellent cover by Arlo Guthrie on his Amigo album [a fine album.} The song is about touring and airports and there are the possible drug references- their bags getting close inspection and is the connection a drug dealer?  The song was written before Mick, Keith and Brian were arrested by the police for drugs. Connection is the first song by The Rolling Stones that Keith Richards sings the lead vocals. The song is just over 2 minutes in length- another little gem off of Between The Buttons.

    • Yes the 2-3 minute song rules! It’s kind of like what my grandfather would say about phone calls- he hated talking on the phone- I don’t recall him ever having a call that lasted more than a couple minutes. He’d say if you are going to talk more than 2 minutes go see them… same with singles- give me a good 2:30 minute single that gets to the point!

  1. Certainly it’s a druggy song, but always one of my favorites. I don’t think they perform it, tho. They had a bit of a different sound on that album. And yes that chord progression was a good one.
