1969 Song of the Day is -Little Girl Blue- sung by Janis Joplin. Little Girl Blue was written by the songwriting team of Lorenz Hart and Richard Rodgers back in 1935 and over the years has been covered by numerous artists including Judy Garland, Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Sam Cooke, Doris Day and Carly Simon -and others. A classic song.   The song was first performed in the Broadway Musical- Jumbo by Gloria Grafton. The Janis Joplin version was on her 1969 album I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again Mama- it was her first solo album. I am not a big Janis fan but she does a fine job with this one.

  1. She did a great job with this song. The guitar work is very tasteful also. I can really hear the Bessie Smith influence in Janis with this song.
