It was fifty years ago today- Thursday January 2, 1969 the police in Newark, New Jersey confiscated a shipment of the John Lennon/ Yoko Ono album “Two Virgins’ because they considered the album cover to be pornographic. In all 30,000 albums were confiscated. The album itself was universally panned by those who actually listened to it. Not John’s brightest idea. He would later comment that the photograph in question was a picture of ‘two slightly overweight ex- junkies.” I will spare you all the actual photograph.
Why didn’t they just ship it with a brown paper cover, like they ship any porn? Moot point now, but makes you wonder if they wanted the publicity for it.
At that point in time I think John was a little out of his mind in love with Yoko. You are probably right- but maybe it was her idea? It wasn’t one of his best moments.

Oh, Yoko Ono…Plastic Ono…OH NOOOOOOOOOO.
Ha. Good old high and mighty Newark, home of the Mob, getting all snooty about John and Yoko in their birthday suits. Not defending John and Yoko. Just saying, hypocrite much, Newark?
Stamp out those rock and rollers seemed to be the order of the day back then too.
Oh, yeah. “Long hair need not apply.”
