50 years ago- 1968 a terrible year in America but a great year for music- both in albums and singles/ album cuts. At first I was going to narrow this list down to just songs that were released as singles- but there were so many great album cuts that never were released as singles that I decided to open it up to both singles and album cuts. This was a hard list to make- simply cutting the list down to a Top 40 seemed impossible. But 40 it is-

Awesome! I wouldn’t have even tried to do a song list. I’m beginning to think I know what your #1 album will be…
I posted the albums this morning.. it was tough making a song list- I should have started earlier and did a TOP 100 it was a great year for music. Looking forward to your 1969 posts! You did a great job on the music of 1968!
That surely is an impressive list. I prefer it much over Han‘s worst songs list. Why even bother thinking about bad tunes when there’s so much great music out there!😀
Happy New Year!🍾🥂
Thanks. Yes it is getting kind of depressing focusing on bad songs I must admit. Happy New Year!
Great list Hans…this had to take a while. Great mixture of artists.
I’ll have to check out Desmond Decker and the Aces…
I am sure you’ve heard the Decker song..
I just listened to it. Man it’s been a long long time…though I never knew who did it. That was the only name I didn’t recognized.
Great list! Happy New Year to you – it’s been great getting to know you this past year from your blog and our back and forth comments! I am inspired (and really envy) the consistency of your posts – seems like every day! Looking forward to another great music new year!
Thank you. Happy New Year to you also!!
LOVE how you’ve got madam george as no. 1. I don’t even need to see the rest of the list. I’m happy.
PS what an incredible year for music….perhaps do a VS post: 2018 vs 1968….geez that’s like putting donald trump in the ring with Mike Tyson in his prime
Sadly I don’t know much about current music.
I felt the same way. Yesterday after posting my ‘best of’ post, I wrote about finding no good music this year – and that kind of saddened me. SO I am on a mission to find some half way decent new music…it’s a tough ask, but I’m up for the challenge!
Let us know if you find it- I will do the same!
Yes will do! I’ve found a few things so far…I feel like I’m taking one for the team though…there’s so much crap lol
There is a lot of great music out there recently – I will try to highlight more this year in hopes that something will click for you guys – although I have to admit I think there are few years that are going to rival this list from 1968 😀
I need to be more open minded about recent music and give some of it a chance. A goal for the upcoming year.
Most of these are timeless hits that still sound fresh today.
They have aged very well haven’t they!
Lots of vibrant music that year.
