THE ROLLING STONES SONG OF THE DAY– GET OFF OF MY CLOUD

The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is Get Off Of My Cloud.  Get Off Of My Cloud was the follow up single to “Satisfaction.” The song was written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. It went to #1 in the US and remained there for two weeks. It was also a #1 hit in the UK, Germany and Canada. It didn’t appear on a regular Stones studio release [neither did “Satisfaction.”  The b-side to the single was “I’m Free.” Get Off Of My Cloud has appeared on most of The Rolling Stones- best of’s or greatest hits packages over the years since. With Satisfaction- followed by Get Off  Of My Cloud- The Rolling Stones had certainly reached a new high water mark in their careers in popularity and creativity. Both singles catchy at first listen. I can recall the first time I heard this song I was walking around singing “hey hey you you get off of my cloud” for days.

Keith Richards has said that “Get Off Of My Cloud” was basically a reaction against the people who were nagging at them for the follow up to “Satisfaction.” They were hoping after the success of Satisfaction that it would buy them a little time but the record company executive types were having none of it- they wanted more product and they wanted it yesterday not tomorrow.
