HAN’S- WORST HITS OF THE 70’S– ‘SOMETIMES WHEN WE TOUCH’- DAN HILL

Sometimes When We Touch - Dan Hill.jpg

Today’- Han’s Worst Hits of the 70’s visits- “Sometimes When We Touch”- by Dan Hill. Sometimes When We Touch reached #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1978. It was written by Dan Hill- lyrics and the music by Barry Mann a very accomplished writer with 98 hits in the US to his credit [most with his wife Cynthia Weil} Hill just over does it with the overblown emotion he puts into this rather wimpy sensitive song. The main problem I have is not necessarily the lyrics- let’s face it there are a lot of hits out there that lyrically are awful but the recording of the song gives it a pass at the least from being thought of as terrible but Hill’s singing on this comes across as way over the top. He ruins his own song. In looking over Hill’s career he had one other hit- a duet with Vonda Shepard in 1987 that went to #6 called Can’t We Try.

  1. YES! I was hoping you would feature this song – this is on my list of the worst ever – agree with you the problem is the delivery. Should change the lyrics to ” And something when I sing “We Touch” the honesty’s too much, and the listener has to break down and cry.” 🙂

    • LOL.. Yes it drove me to near tears a number of times.. seemed like it was every other song on pop radio in the winter of 78.. right after You Light Up My Life.. those back to back probably had people heading for the bridges.
