- ARLO GUTHRIE: THE BEST OF ARLO GUTHRIE: 1977: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Alice Restaurant of course is the greatest Thanksgiving song ever. The City of New Orleans is Arlo’s greatest single, Coming Into Los Angeles and Darkest Hour are outstanding- the rest- filler.
- PAUL MCCARTNEY: EGYPT STATION: 2018: 5 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: I like this album more with each listen- even the songs I wasn’t all that wild about at first are growing on me. I don’t follow the charts closely anymore but I thought I’d see where Egypt Station is now on the Billboard Top 200 album chart- I see The Beatles 1 and Abbey Road are in the Top 200- but Egypt Station which was released September 7th- and went to #1- has fallen off totally out of the Top 200 just two months after release. Everyone must have bought it the first week or two when it came out? I don’t even know how they do the charts these days- and well I am not all that interested. I see Andrea Bocelli has the #1 album- how many copies did Carmela Soprano buy?
- ELVIS COSTELLO: LOOK NOW: 2018: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: First listen- grade could change. First off I am happy Elvis changed his mind- a few years ago he said he was retiring from recording- that he’d tour some now and then but was done making records. Welcome back EC. I do see this album is getting very good reviews. It is not in the mold of early EC- and I didn’t really expect that but it does sound on first listen- to be an interesting set of songs that requires many more listens. Looking at the Top 200 again I don’t see this album released last month even on it. I couldn’t find it at my so called local music store- what do you call them now? I still call them ‘record stores’ although they have very few records. Anyway- I ordered it and it has arrived. ELVISISKING.
