The Rolling Stones Song of the Day is Carol. Carol was written and first performed by the great Chuck Berry in 1958. Carol was released as a single and reached #18 in the US. Both The Rolling Stones would cover it- The Stones here on their first album- and The Beatles also recorded it later released on the Live At The BBC album. Of all the Chuck Berry covers that The Stones did [not counting the Stones originals that borrow a Chuck riff } Carol is my favorite. When Keith Richards introduced Chuck Berry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame he admitted that he” lifted every lick Chuck ever played.” If you are going to steal steal from the best. The Stones would also do Carol- on their live album from 1970- Get Yer Ya-Ya’s Out.”

I think Richards was also the one behind getting a real professional band to back him up as part of the movie Hail Hail Rock and Roll? Berry I heard was famous for not having a band but just using whatever local band was available.
yes I loved that movie and Keith was the man behind it. You could tell Chuck frustrated Keith but he still loved the guy. From all accounts Chuck could be a difficult man.
Agree. Springsteen has talked about how when he and E St band backed him in like 73 or so Chuck wouldn’t tell them what song he was playing or what key was – they had to figure it as he started each song ! Come to think of it I may have heard that story in the movie? 😂
I think it was in the movie. I bet a lot of fellas have stories like that of Chuck.
Oh to have a time machine and go back and at that performance. 😀
Yes Paul, very similar to Dylan. You’re ready to play anything from the back catalogue in any key…. Tough gig
I remember reading somewhere that chuck kicked Keith off a stage at one time or another. Very difficult character but what an innovator! I mean Keith developed a unique sound and style but at the start he was just ripping off chuck berry riffs lol and I’m Keith biggest fan!
Oh it seems my comments aren’t slotting under the appropriate comment… Anyway just wanted to say that when I heard the live version of this song on get yer ya ya’s out… My brain evaporated! Chills
