ALBUMS

  • JUDY COLLINS: WILDFLOWERS: 1967: 3 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: I can’t say I have ever been a fan of her but she sure could sing. This album has a couple songs written by Joni Mitchell and three by Leonard Cohen- great songwriters. The cover of Joni’s “Both Sides Now” went Top 10 on the Top 40.

  • GORDON LIGHTFOOT: IF YOU COULD READ MY MIND: 1970: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS:  Gordon’s sixth album and best selling album. If You Could Read My Mind went to #5 on the Hot 100 singles chart. Randy Newman arranged the orchestration on a couple songs on the album. Also one of the first versions of Me and Bobby McGee is on this- before Janis recorded it.

Best of the Statler Brothers

  • STATLER BROTHERS: THE BEST OF THE STATLER BROTHERS: 1975: 4 STARS OUT OF 5 STARS: Flowers On The Wall was their only pop hit #4 in 1965 but they were solid hitmakers on the country charts for a couple decades. Other favorites on this first volume of greatest hits- Whatever Happened to Randolph Scott, Do You Remember These, The Class of ’57. The Statler Brothers were discovered by Johnny Cash. None of them were named Statler and only two of the band members were brothers.

  1. After you mentioned Gordon Lightfoot yesterday, I played the two CDs I have of his, Gord’s Gold, and If You Could Read My Mind. I was picking out images for the collage for the final part to my Manifestation story, and just as Gordon stared singing Me & Bobby McGree, I found a picture of Janis Joplin, who is featured in the collage. This is synchronicity at its best! So many memorable songs on both of those CDs!

    • Those are two good ones- and that is crazy Me and Bobby McGee playing and a picture of Janis. I like Gordon’s version of the song and although I am not a Janis fan- her version will never be beaten.
