It was fifty years ago today- October 25, 1968- the place Surrey University in Guildford, Surrey, England- the first concert by the soon to be legendary Led Zeppelin. The band was originally going to be called The New Yardbirds- but there were changes in the line up made- lead guitarist Jimmy Page would stay but Robert Plant would become the new vocalist. John Paul Jones the bassist and John Bonham on drums. Page got the name Led Zeppelin when he recalled The Who’s drummer saying that a supergroup with Page and Jeff Beck would go down like a ‘lead zeppelin.” The spelling of ‘lead’ would be changed to “Led.” The rest is history.
So… The Who’s drummer — was that the drummer I read about last week, Keith Moon– named Led Zeppelin??
Yes The Who’s drummer- Keith Moon in a round about way- gave Led Zeppelin their name. Crazy!
That is off the chain! Truth IS stranger than fiction — every time.
Seems like yesterday… 😉
